Chapter Seven: Water Lilies Bloom in the Desert, A New Wind Through the Market

1. Guard Hossein and Maid Inji — A Love Hidden in the Shadows

During that fateful “rescue of the princess,”

Hossein and Inji fought back to back, gambling their lives side by side.

Bound by the single purpose of protecting Princess Nilfar,

it was inevitable that quiet feelings would take root between them.

Hossein’s finely honed shamshir,

and Inji’s pearl-like attentiveness—

together, they now oversee the palace’s security.

From the shadows, they have become the princess’s greatest confidants,

silently supporting her path of love and choice.

2. Danesh the Merchant — A “Global Bestseller” Is Born

Danesh recorded everything he witnessed that day

in an epic titled In the Persian Bazaar.

Once a man who sold “knowledge,”

he became a man who sold emotion.

Carried by Cyrus’s caravans, his story crossed the Silk Road,

reaching lands far to the West and East.

People in distant countries—who had never heard his name—

came to speak the name “Nilfar” through Danesh’s words,

their hearts drifting toward the noise and brilliance of the market.

3. Those Who Inherit Jare’s Final Will

One gentle night, the aged fortune-teller Jare passed away in her sleep,

a soft smile upon her face.

Her final words were these:

“Loving the present is far more difficult than predicting the future.”

The one who inherited her tent

was none other than Kabir, once a beggar elder.

He no longer told fortunes.

Instead, he listened—

to the worries of those who wandered into the market,

living anew as a quiet sage.

4. Princess Nilfar and Her “True Governance”

Once a girl who viewed the world from within a palanquin,

Nilfar no longer fears walking alone.

At times, she disguises her noble status

and visits Inaz’s shop as an ordinary woman.

There, she listens to the market’s true voice

and offers counsel to King Reza.

At her suggestion, a “Water Plaza” was built—

a place where travelers and beggars alike

could quench their thirst without distinction.

Epilogue: The Eternal Melody

As the sun sets,

that familiar sound once again echoes through the market.

“…Zassa, zassa, zassa…”

It is the sign that Cyrus’s caravan has returned,

bearing treasures from distant lands.

When Cyrus stands at the market gate,

Shahin is always there, gazing at the sky;

Shahab lingers like a shadow;

and Hossein watches with sharp eyes—

yet a faint smile touches his lips.

When they gather together,

the market is once more wrapped in the same golden miracle as that day.

The clock’s hands no longer stop,

but the memory of that shared moment

rides upon the Persian wind,

resounding endlessly like Ketèlbey’s music,

traveling across the world without end.
