And then she got a little sister
Two years later, Naomi gave birth to a daughter, named Noel-chan. I had to meet her after that, and entered the so-called "secret room." Emily was in an acrylic case filled with inert gas next to her desk, and she didn't blink or change her expression. She was rocking her little daughter as a mother in between work as usual. I wondered if she had anything she wanted to say or think about her younger sister. I asked her, "Emi-chan, how do you feel about having a little sister and now that you're a big sister? What would you like to do for her? Have you ever wanted to hold her?" but of course she didn't answer. As time passed, rumours began to spread within the company that "our president is working with his dead daughter in the secret room," and flowers and sweets began to be placed at the door of the room well known as "CEO's Daughter's Room" by employees. Then, her portrait drawn manga style became the company mascot. On her 23rd birthday, she was inaugurated as an honourary employee and her employment letter was issued, and it was then framed and hung on the wall next to the acrylic case. Naomi says that employees who found out about this would occasionally ask her, "I'm sorry to say this, but aren't you sad to see her like this, never growing up?" She would say, "I'm not sad at all that Emily won't grow up. I'd be much sadder if I could only see my cute daughter in photos, as if she were no longer a real person. It's important that she is here or I'd be in trouble if she wasn't here. And I want her to see the world of the future."
At the time, we are becoming a listed company, and she probably wanted her daughter to see her effort. Even though we occasionally hear stories of people living with their children who died due to illness or sudden accidents, there seem to be quite a few people who feel uncomfortable about this.
When Noel-chan was 10 years old, the day of the IPO came, and Naomi was shown on the TV news ringing the bell at the stock exchange. She gave up about 60% of the shares in the IPO, and our company was no longer an owner-operated company. I had received stock options as a bonus a long time ago, so I benefited from the IPO, albeit modestly. she decided to work mainly remotely, and want to continue her job while giving priority to child-rearing. She merged the president's office at the head office, closed the "secret room," and decided to Emily was bring to home as she had said. So she held a small farewell party. Many employees attended and bid her farewell. When Noel-chan stopped by on her way home from school to take a photo of the two of them, they looked like twins.
After that, I went to Naomi's house. The "secret room" in the house has been recreated almost exactly as it was back then, though it is now smaller. Emily is now an honourary employee and still looks like she did in her early teens, watches over her mother does office work and checks Noel's homework. Naomi said, "I'll probably never open this acrylic case, but if I ever have to, I'd like to dress Emily in a business suit. She's actually already 25."
