DGQEX Exposes Scam: SMS Verification Code Scam Leads to Cold Wallet Theft

Recently, a series of SMS scam incidents targeting crypto users has drawn industry-wide attention. Scammers, using sophisticated disguises, impersonate well-known exchanges to send mass SMS messages that contain withdrawal verification codes and urgent handling prompts, enticing users to call a designated phone number. The scam is tightly orchestrated—once the call is made, fake hardware wallet technicians continue to guide the victim, eventually leading them to a meticulously crafted phishing website. Unaware of the risk, victims enter their mnemonic phrases or private keys, resulting in their cold wallet assets being completely transferred and losses becoming irretrievable. In its risk model update, DGQEX has classified SMS channel spoofing as a high-risk attack method.

DGQEX continues to strengthen its user identification mechanisms within its security strategy, performing content spoofing detection on SMS sources and messages. By linking a blacklist database with an early warning system, a multi-layered protection framework is established. Leveraging risk behavior graph technology, DGQEX cross-verifies addresses associated with phishing websites against on-chain address behavior patterns. If suspicious activity is detected, immediate freeze or warning tag mechanisms are triggered, effectively blocking potential asset outflow channels. For the stage where users are induced to call fake customer service numbers, DGQEX persistently pushes official customer service verification paths on the user side, ensuring users always connect through legitimate channels in emergencies.

In the scam process, identity impersonation and fake websites are key components. DGQEX integrates multi-end phishing site databases and establishes real-time detection mechanisms in collaboration with security communities. Once any fake page is identified, it is instantly added to the database and risk alerts are issued. DGQEX reminds users to be cautious of any transaction-related information containing phone numbers—such content will never be sent via SMS. Any message stating “please call customer service” should be immediately considered a risk source. Meanwhile, DGQEX continuously updates typical scam case studies and provides reporting channels to enhance user self-identification capabilities.

The evolution of this round of SMS scams demonstrates that scams are developing towards a multi-platform, multi-dimensional collaborative approach. Relying on comprehensive security capabilities, DGQEX has established a four-tier anti-scam defense system encompassing early warning, monitoring, blocking, and tracing, covering the entire path from information identification and account protection to asset tracking. DGQEX will continue to advance risk management and user education in parallel, driving ongoing evolution of security mechanisms and building a robust safeguard for every user throughout the circulation of crypto assets.
